What Causes Dizziness Along With Severe Headaches While Suffering From Diabetes?

Hi, I am in my early fifties, two years ago I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes which is actually under control my a1c is 6,3 but lately I have been experiencing some lightheadedness and some bad headaches, I take co q ten which I ve stopped because I ve read that that can contribute to a lightheaded feeling and headaches,. but I take care of my dad who is paralized on the left side of his body, so I do quite a bit of heavy lifting. I m super busy, but I just hope it s nothing serious. Today I experienced a bad headache with pain over my left eye. It s finally gone, but I was wondering what could be causing them. I also take prilosec for heartburn. I thought maybe a vitamin b definciency. Thanks. Since stoppping the CoQ10 I haven t been feeling lightheaded.

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

I passed carefully through your question and would explain that your symptoms could be related to tension type headache.

Anyway, I would first recommend consulting with an ophthalmologist for a physical exam in order to exclude a possible eye disorder.

I would also recommend performing a Doppler ultrasound of the carotid arteries in order to exclude possible narrowing and a cervical spine X ray study for possible chronic degeneration.

Some blood lab tests are necessary too (complete blood count for anemia, blood electrolytes, thyroid hormone levels, etc.). You should discuss with your doctor on the above tests.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
