What Causes Dizziness And Ear Blockage After Air Travel?
I got off a three hour flight and was dizzy. That was 2 months ago. I have seen an ER doctor who prescribed antibiotics, my primary who said it was vertigo and prescribed Meclizine, ENT who said I had vestibular migraine and prescribed amitriptiline, neurologist who doesn t know physicians assist who said allergies , and a physical therapist who said it was crystals and after 2 sessions I feel no better and have been doing the Epley Manouver at home for 2 weeks. My left ear is blocked, so much post nasal drip and beyond dizzy every day. Although, laying down helps. Thank you.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of dizziness and ear blockage after an air travel which seems to be due to eustachian tube dysfunction which leads to creation of negative pressure inside ear. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist again for proper examination. Doctor may examine with otoscope and order CT scan to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics ( amoxicillin or penicillin ) at least for 10 days , decongestants and anti inflammatory . Doctor may also place tubes in ears. For now keep your ears dry.You should
- Take steam twice a day to relieve the congestion .
- Do warm saline gargles .
- Apply dry hot compresses to external ear .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
