What Causes Dizziness And Fainting After Taking Colace And Correctol?

I have history of Crohns and a lap band, sometimes I get constipated so I try Colace but when that doesn t work I use a gentle laxative like Corectol. When they start to work or sometimes when I finally become unconstipated on my own, I pass out on the toilet. It s like I get dizzy, my stomach cramps, a get a cold sweat then I wake up a little disoriented not knowing what I missed or where I am or how much time passed. I slowly become cognizant and realize Im still on the comode. Why does this occur?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Dizziness & fainting attacks on taking Colace or Correctol is indicative of allergy to those drugs. If you have such symptoms, you better stop taking it & inform your treating doctor.

There are other laxatives/ stool softeners (docusate & senna, etc) you can take.

Take more fiber in your diet, stay well hydrated, exercise regularly. You can take natural laxatives like papayas (both ripe & raw), dark leafy veggies, prunes, pears, apples, oatmeal, etc.

Avoid red meat, milk & dairy products, gluten-containing food, alcohol, etc.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
