What Causes Dizziness And Fatigue After Lexapro Withdrawal?

Hi there,I have been off Lexapro for a week tomorrow and haven t felt very well at all. After reading forums I think perhaps I tapered too quickly. I was on it for about 8 months and just halved the dosage for a week and then stopped. Feel pretty dizzy and light headed so its quite hard to carry on as normal. Is this something you have heard of?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Lexapro contains escitalopram that belongs to the group of antidepressant medications known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or SSRIs is used in the treatment of depression, anxiety, panic disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder etc. But like other medications this medication has some side effects of its own. Stop taking escitalopram like Lexapro may result some unwanted and unpleasant symptoms that is known as withdrawal syndrome. Withdrawal syndrome of Lexapro are dizziness, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, headache, irritability, nightmares, prickling or tingling sensation on the skin, agitation and many more. This medication should be stopped gradually by tapering its doses under the supervision of the prescribing doctor to avoid the withdrawal syndrome.

Take care.Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
