What Causes Dizziness And Headache After Taking Clonidine?

My daughter is 14 and diagnosed with what they think is depression and anxiety. They prescribed Zoloft but she was afraid to take it but she got worse so finally last Sunday we started giving it to her. She got even less sleep than she had (which she had been getting 2-3hrs a night), was irritable, very nauseous and threw up a couple times, jittery and fidgety on the med so the NP who prescribed it said to stop it. She said she could give her Clonidine to help her sleep. So Wednesday night was the last Zoloft. Friday night we started the Clonidine .2mg one tablet. Today she was a little lightheaded, and then this evening it got worse. She is very dizzy and says she has a headache. Is there anything I can do?

Hello,

Dizziness and headache are both possible side effects on Clonidine I am afraid, in about 10% of patients. I would suggest reducing the dosage to half. If the symptoms persist then another alternative to Clonidine should be considered.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
