I am a 70 year old male and just started taking ginger root for arthritis but I feel a little dizzy and feel like I am having heart palpations. The only med I m on is 20 mgs of zocort and Ativan for sleep.Should I discontinue the ginger.I did have arterial bypass surgery 12 years ago. Gerry
- Ginger root is known to cause some irregularities in your heart rate in some people when used in higher amounts. Especially, if the individual has had heart problems before. - Arrhythmias (heart irregularities) can cause you to experience palpitations and dizziness. - I would suggest you put the ginger on hold and see if your symptoms improve. If they do, you can stop taking the med. - If the symptoms do not improve after stopping the ginger, you should get an ecg and blood tests for thyroid hormones etc., done to identify the reason for your palpitations.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
