What Causes Dizziness And Hyperventilation For A 77-year-old?

Strong dizziness when leaning over, actually threw me back up straight, whereby it ceased. Also so unusual for me: hyperventilation episodes in my sleep, which awaken me (partly) and I realize I am deep breathing as if I had just run a mile. I am 77 years old and otherwise very healthy. No other issues.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Dizziness with certain head movements may be due to Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV).
This is a disease of the part of the ear that is responsible for balance and consists of small sand-like structures precipitating there and making the area more sensitive to movements.

You will need a visit with your doctor to rule this diagnosis out or to confirm it and be treated accordingly.

The doctor will need to also check your heart and lungs to rule out problems with these organs due to your fast and deep breathing episodes. If these come out normal, anxiety is very likely the cause.

I hope this answers your query.
I remain at your disposal for further medical assistance.
