What Causes Dizziness And Left Flank Pain After Taking Pyridium And Cefdinir For UTI?
My 12 y/0 daughter was do with a UTI on Thursday. She was having frequency and urgency and urinating 15 x a day. Went to urgent care. They prescribed pyridium and cefdinir 300mg x 1 every 12 hours. Today she called from school c/o headache. Some dizziness and pain to her left flank that is worse with walking. I called and got the culture results and they said its negative. I was thinking kidney infection but the culture is throwing me off. She said she urinated 5 x at school today which is unusual. No fever. Should I take her to the urgent care ?
The dizziness is related to side effect of Cefdinir most likely. The left flank pain is due to urinary infection causing secondary hydronephrosis most likely to left kidney. Remember that if the infection is sterile pyuria, the culture will be negative despite having symptoms. Not every UTI is associated with fever. I would recommend an ultrasound of the abdomen & pelvis at this platform for final diagnosis and further cure. Till that time, allow her plenty of liquids and do not give further doses of Cefdinir.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
