Hi. I am a male. I recently received oral sex from a stranger while on vacation. About 2 weeks from returning home I started experiencing burning when urinating so I was told I have an STD. I was given a shot of something very strong and also took doxycycline for 10 days. The burning stopped. About 3 days after I stopped taking doxycycline I started feeling very tired with mild flu-like symptoms. I have felt this way for 10 days now and have a dr s appointment in a few days. Could this be a side effect of something? I am worried I contracted the HIV virus from receiving oral sex and now I am petrified.
Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic
Oral sex carries a negligible risk of transmitting HIV unless the person giving oral sex has oral sores Or ulcers. Most likely you suffered from urethritis, which was probably Non-gonococcal in origin, from that particular sexual contact and was treated for it. The flu like symptoms seems unrelated to this particular episode and would suggest you to take symptomatic treatment for it. You may take up a screening test at 1 month for HIV just to get rid of the thought of HIV from your mind, more than anything else. Most likely it would turn up as negative.
