Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I smoked semi-regulary. I used to smoke when I was in high school but have to stop since I play volleyball and it makes me tired easily. But now I m in college, I smoke more often. Yesterday, when I smoked i felt dizzy. Nauseous dizzy. I laid on my bed and rested for a few minutes and felt better. I know I have to quit smoking. But, this really bothers me because I ve never experienced like this before. Sure, I experienced dizziness before when I was new to smoking but not like this.
Understanding your concern. As per your query dizziness and nausea after smoking is because of nicotine which is main ingredient in tobacco. Long term use of nicotine has effect on central nervous system and it activates sympathetic nervous system and resulting in adrenaline from adrenal medulla into blood stream which increases heart rate and blood pressure. If it is not troubling your day to day life then there is no point to see a doctor, but in case if problem is persistent then you should see pulmonologist. I would suggest you to quit smoking as that is the only preventing measure. Start reducing first or start using nicotine patches. Keep chewing sugarless candies or chew-gums. Drink alot fluids and water.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
