What Causes Dizziness And Nausea When Potassium Level Is Low?

I was in the ER two weeks or more ago with pain radiating from my back to my chest. The hospital did blood work, EKG, CT scan but found nothing. This is the second time this happened the first time they said it was arthritis. My potassium and electrolytes were also low. I still get dizzy and nauseated and weak and my BM fluctuates I do have a lot of illnesses but would like to know why I get so dizzy all the time.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Potassium is essential for brain and muscle function.

Low potassium level (hypokalemia) can cause similar symptoms.

It has to be corrected.

Check the blood potassium level and if it is below 3 corrections might be required.

Include more and more potassium-rich foods like bananas in your diet.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
