Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 17 year old daughter was dizzy last night, I was not too worried because she had just been in a tumbling, gymnastics class. She was only dizzy today during track. Today at school, however, she had a couple of nosebleeds (just bloody runny discharge). Should I schedule an appointment with her dr or give it awhile to clear up. She is a healthy active 17 year old. She runs track and is a cheerleader. No current cold or infection that I know of.
Nose bleeds are most commonly caused due:
- Injury to nasal mucosa while blowing the nose or picking it with finger - A small furuncle or boil inside the nose - Nasal polyp - After heavy exercise - In hot and dry weather
Mostly nose bleeds are not harmful. Only pressure and extension of neck to elevate the nose are enough to control the bleeding. Nasal cold packs can be used to control bleeding. A few causes of dizziness in a teenager are after rigorous exercise, due to dehydration, vertigo, inner ear problems, lowered blood glucose, stress or anxiety.
In your daughter's case, it might be due to rigorous exercise and dehydration. Make your child drink more water at least 12-15 glasses a day. Avoid stress and anxiety. Have healthy muscle building foods with high amounts of proteins. If she continues to have Dizziness and nose bleeds for more than 3-4 times a week you mat take hero a physician for further evaluation.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
