Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Yes, hello! My daughter has been presenting symptoms of feeling very over heated without exercise exertion and when she does exercise she feels light headed, dizzy and has to sit down. Yesterday this happened and her fingers felt numb and the muscles in the fingers cramping and trying to gather together like hooves she said. Like a spasm. This happened only once before with the hands like that. It lasted for 10 min and she felt very depleted after it was over. I am not sure how to help her. She is 27 years old, healthy as far as I ve always known. Any thoughts?
The episode you explain sounds like a panic attack. It may cause dizziness, numbness and also spasms of muscles.
Sometimes, they are temporary and related to a stressful period of time and gradually fade. In the cases that they do not improve or are getting worse, treatment may be initiated. SSRI drugs (like sertraline, fluoxetine or citalopram) are first-line treatment and well tolerated. Psychotherapy may be helpful as well and being involved in sports activities or going for walks and keeping active but not overly busy. Coffee, alcohol, and smoking may also aggravate her symptoms.
I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
