What Causes Dizziness And Pain On Bridge Of Nose After Recovering From Cold?

Hi, I had a cold a while back, and it caused pressure headaches. It has been about three weeks since the start of the cold, and my doctor prescribed me with amoxicillin. My headaches have decreased and my cough has decreased, but I feel dizzy and occasionally have a tickle feeling in my brain when I try to focus on something, such as a reading passage. I also feel pain when I rub the area above my nose bridge between my eyebrows. I am an high school female; however I do not feel particularly stressed. Thank you for your help.

Hello and welcome,

In reading your symptoms, a few different possibilities come to mind:

1. It is possible that you have a sinus infection that was partially treated with the amoxicillin, but still continues. Other common symptoms of a sinus infection are feeling of pressure in the sinus areas such as in the areas below your eyes but above your cheek bones, or above your eyebrows. A sinus infection also often also causes drainage down the back of the throat and sometimes a yellow discharge from the nose, tender sensation of the upper teeth, and a bacterial sort of taste in the mouth. If the sinuses are infected, not all of the regions of pressure or tenderness I described have to be affected as the pressure usually depends on where the infection is.

If you are having nasal congestion in addition or feeling "stuffy", a nasal corticosteroid such as fluticasone (Flonase) may be helpful until you fully recover. These are now sold without prescription at pharmacies in the US.

If this description of sinus infection symptoms matches what is going on with you, and nasal steroid doesn't help enough, consider seeing a doctor who may prescribe a 2nd antibiotic to help clear the rest of the infection up. If that happens, you may want to take a probiotic to maintain the healthy bacteria in your intestines since 2 antibiotics may decrease the healthy gut flora.

You may also want to try saline (salt water) irrigation of your sinuses to see if that helps. The things you need for this such as a nettipot and saline packets can be purchased from a pharmacy or Walgreens if you live in the US.

2. Your symptoms may be from headaches unrelated to an infection. Without seeing you, I would not be able to sort that out online, so if the headaches are bad, do see your doctor.

I hope this helps, and that you are feeling better soon!
