What Causes Dizziness, Nausea And Lower Abdominal Pain After Taking I-pill?

Hello doctor, I and my husband had unprotected intercourse just 1 day after my periods ended and I took i-pill just to be on the safe side by 2 hours. Then again after 2 days we had intercourse and ejaculated inside me. I took i-pill within 24 hours. After taking the pill i was feeling dizzy and nausea. I m okay now but have a slight lower abdomen pain. I too had a little bit bleeding the day he ejaculated inside me. My periods are going to start this month, most probably on the 21st June. I am very scared. Will my periods be delayed ? I took a pregnancy test a week before i started my periods and it was negative. Am I pregnant ? Please help me. Thankyou.

Hi,

I Pill is used as an emergency contraceptive contraceptive tablet to prevent unwanted pregnancy in case of unwanted sex or contraceptive failure. The I Pill should be taken within 24-72 hours of having unprotected sex. The first dose must be taken within 72 hours after unprotected sex but it could be taken within five days according to your doctor's advice. The sooner you take the I Pill, the better it will work. If you vomit within 1 hour of taking the iPill, you need to take another dose.

As a high dose of hormone is taken, it disrupts the normal menstrual cycle and the women may bleed irregularly or have delayed menses in the next cycle. The I Pill can cause nausea, vomiting, breast tenderness and enlargement, pain in the abdomen, dizziness, spotting or breakthrough bleeding between periods, allergic reactions etc. If you think that you might become pregnant, then do a pregnancy test 7 days after the next missed period or consult your gynecologist for medical help.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
