My mom woke up at 3:00 am with the room spinning when she got out of the bed. She says it’s worse when she moves her head up or to the right but if she doesn’t move her head she is fine. she went to the dr and she did an ekg said it was normal and looked in her ears and said they look clear but it might be in the inner ear. She said she has vertigo and gave her Meclizine but siedntbrwally explain what is causing it. Is there anything I can take that’s a vitamin to help?
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service. I reviewed your query and here is my advice.
She is suffering from benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) , a disorder arising from a problem in the inner ear. Symptoms are repeated, brief periods of vertigo with movement, that is, of a spinning sensation upon changes in the position of the head. BPPV is one of the most common causes of vertigo. Her doctor may be able to stop BPPV with a treatment in the office that moves the loose crystals in ear into a spot that will cause less trouble. This is known as Epley maneuver. It takes about 15 minutes.
Hope I have answered the question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
