Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Dizziness Upon Standing While On Medication For Hypertension?
I am a 72 year old female--take meds for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, + synthroid. I usually feel fine but have been experiencing slight dizziness/lightheadedness upon rising from a prone position in the morning, stretching in a prone position, or bending over to pick something up. Could this be a sign of impending stroke or even a brain tumor?
Postural drop or drop in BP with anti hypertensive is very common. This may cause dizziness on standing.
You should check your BP on sitting and then standing if there more then 10 drop in your BP reading then this is confirmed you may need tot talk to your doctor to reduce your dose of hypertension medication.
If there is no drop in BP then you should get evaluated for your dizziness but it does not mean any a brain tumour. Other causes are much more common.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr Mahboob Ur Rahman , General & Family Physician
