What Causes Dizziness Upon Waking Up?

I woke up this morning as I normally do, and within a few minutes had a dizzy spell--it has not gone away for the past hour or so. If I move my head side to side, it s worse--feel dizzy, off balance--no tingling, no numbness, no problems with speech or muscle movement--no headache. I am 70, and take Plavix and an aspirin daily. Dizziness is fairly significant and doesn t seem to be diminishing.

Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
Dizziness could be caused by many medical conditions. Some of these possible causes may include:
-Medications
-Drop in blood pressure(hypotension)
-Poor blood circulation
-anemia
-Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)
-dehydration
-Neurological conditions like Parkinson and MS
-Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV)
-Infection
-Meniere's disease
-Ear problems
-Metabolic/ionic imbalances
With all these possible causes, only a keen examination by the Doctor with some work-ups may help identify the cause.Plavix and aspirin may not give you such effects.
I will suggest you try the following:
*Eat well and healthy with enough vegetables
*Drink enough water
*Rest and sleep well
*Fitness exercises
If symptoms persist, you see the Doctor for investigations.Test like full blood count, serum electrolytes, fasting blood sugar, BP check, liver and kidney function tests, ECG, infections work-ups like typhoid test, malaria test, ESR...and if need be, imaging tests like brain CT may be requested.
Hope this will help
Best regards
