What Causes Dizziness While On Simvastatin?

I am an eighty year old male who exercises regularly, non smoker, no alcohol, good nutrition and sleep well. I see my doctor for annual physical only and have been taking prescriptive medication to control elevated blood pressure. The Meds I have been taking (for past 15 years) include hydrochlorothiazide (25mg) and Simvastatin/proscor (5mg). In recent months I occasionally experience dizziness following an hour or more of moderate exercise. I am aware of the side effects of each, and although I take each med approximately 12 hours apart I am wondering if the long term effect, coupled with advancing age could be a factor in my experiencing periods of light headedness in a standing position. Thank you for your consultation.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Blood pressure lowering medicine can cause dizziness, especially on standing. So, probably this is your medicine that has been causing it. I suggest you should check your BP, both on sitting and then to standing.

If there is a drop of more than 10 in BP in standing then this is pastoral drip mostly cause the hypertension drug. So you should talk to your doctor then. He would see other possible causes of postural hypotension and may reduce your BP medicine.

Hope I have answered your query.
