Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mother-in-law, age 89, with treated heart arrythmia, and on blood thinner Xerelto, is feeling a bit dizzy upon walking and not well . She has had dark stools for two days. We plan on halting Xarelto and aspirin tonight, doubling her multivitamin and feeding her anniron-rich meal until she can return to Huntington Hospital in Pasadena and her Cardiologist. She is upright, alert and fairly perky. Sound reasonable?
Black colour stools may possible with green leafy vegetables, iron tablets intake or upper GI bleeding or bismuth contain antacids intake.
Use tablet pantoprazole before breakfast for one week. please get it done stool for occult blood. If it is positive the get it done upper GI endoscopy.
If any active bleeding or ulcers then take above medication for 2-3 weeks.
Please consult your Cardiologist before stopping of aspirin and rivaroxaban.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
