Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
There are a few reasons for the dizziness in a patient with pneumonia. First of all the bacteria causing the infection stimulates the body to produce chemicals to fight the infection and while this "fight" of the immune system with the infection happens the chemicals produced can effect us by causing several symptoms and among them dizziness.
Another possible cause for the dizziness is the reduced oxygen that happens from pneumonia. Because a part of lung tissue is having this infection, the function of the lungs is lower than usual and does not provide as much oxygen as previously while the need for oxygen is increased due to the infection. The organ that is very sensitive to reduced oxygen is the brain and might cause the patient to develop dizziness due to low oxygen levels.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Kind regards, Antoneta Zotaj, MD
