What Causes Dizzy Spells In A Diabetic Person?

My dad has type 2 diabetes and had a bad dizzy spell yesterday. He said, The room was spinning and it felt like he was going to fall off of the chair that he was sitting on. He then proceeded to dry heave and eventually threw up the salad he had for lunch. We layed him down in his bed and after hours he began to feel a litlle better. He woke up with a headache and took two excedrine and felt better by the middle of the night? He also, has bad neuropathy from the diabetes and his legs are very swollen. Can you help me? What s your professional advice? What do you think that episode was last night? Why are his legs swollen? Why when I push his skin in on his shins the skin stays indented?

Hi,

In type 2 Diabetes dizziness can be seen while:
- High blood sugar causing excessive urination and dehydration
- Low blood sugar when medicines are taken but did not eat in time
-Associated high blood pressure may cause it. Blood pressure can cause swelling on legs and head ache too.

Obesity along with diabetes can cause swelling legs. Kidney affection in diabetes can cause swollen legs. He needs to get diabetic profile done along with a diabetologists consultation and get the problem solved by treating the cause (which would be evident after investigations).

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
