What Causes Drainage From Socket Of The Extracted Tooth?

I got all 4 of my wisdom teeth out exactly 1 week ago. I've had no problems so far and have been following all of my dentist's post-op instructions (took all antibiotics and rinsing twice a day with Peridex). All of my sutures have dissolved and now I have little holes/indents where the extraction site was. Occasionally I feel drainage from the bottom socket accompanied by a salty kind of taste (not really bloody) and now it feels kind of...emptier there but I have no pain and when I look in the mirror it still looks normal, I do not see any bone or anything. Is this normal? I am mostly worried if it was the blood clot because I'm terrified of getting dry socket. thank you

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain the salty drainage from the bottom socket can be due to infection that is occurring in the healing socket which can be due to food entrapped in the socket leading to pus discharge which comes to mouth..

It can not necessarily be dry socket as you do not have other symptoms like pain, swelling and foul smell.

You need not to be so worried as if you do not have any symptoms you can get it treated without getting the pain and discomfort..

I would suggest you to consult a dental surgeon and get evaluated for the cause of the discharge and get treated..

In case of the infection caused due to food debris irrigating the socket with Hydrogen peroxide, betadine and normal saline followed by a course of antibiotics can help..

In case of dry socket irrigation of the socket followed by placement of a dressing containing sterile gauze coated with zinc oxide eugenol is done which has to be changed every alternate day along with antibiotic course.

Hope your query is solved..
