Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Droopy Eyelids While On Pyridostigmine?
I’ve been recently been diagnosed with myasthenia gravis. In addition I’m dealing with post polio syndrome. I’m taking Pyridostigmine and there seems to be some improvement, for example, neck muscles are not so tender, getting up in the morning is not as painful. Still have droopy left eyelid. The problem I wondering about is that my right side is swollen, especially my right arm. Could this be a reaction to medication?
Most commonly relate to overdosage and generally are of two varieties, muscarinic and nicotinic. Among those in the former group are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, increased peristalsis, increased salivation, increased bronchial secretions, miosis, and diaphoresis. Nicotinic side effects are comprised chiefly of muscle cramps, fasciculation, and weakness.
As with any compound containing the bromide radical, a skin rash may be seen in an occasional patient. Such reactions usually subside promptly upon discontinuance of the medication. So pyridostigmine may cause flushing so. The dropping of eyelid not due to pyridostigmine. Myasthenia gravis itself causes dropping. Please consult your neurologist he will examine and treat you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
