What Causes Drop In Blood Pressure?

My husband just got out of the hospital last week from a rare blood infection that took a tole on all his organs. He has never taken any meds except Levothyroxine. Never had high blood pressure, in fact his BP is usually 130/70 or so, very active male for age 74. When he left the hospital they said he needed BP meds at least till we can get back home and see our primary care doctor. Today his blood pressure was 100/55?? Is that too low?? Are these pills making his BP too low? He s on 2 kinds and one is to reduce water and potassium too. Mary T. Arizona

Hi welcome to HCM.
The episode of low blood pressure in your husband case is due to the pill that is used to reduce water and potassium. These drugs are known as diuretics which can have propensity to cause low blood pressure and hypokalemia. It is advisable to use the lowest possible dose to maintain the blood pressure.Levothyroxine has no propensity to cause low blood pressure.Consult your doctor for further care.
Thank you
