General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history about your Father having diabetes with controlled sugars, but has spells for 2 - 4 hours of senseless talks and so on.;
The commonest reasons for such changes are one or a combination of the following:
Electrolyte imbalance with low sodium is the commonest cause and once the body recovers sodium he gets better.
Old age with changes in brain.
Hence I would advise you the following for your Father:
Consult your Doctor and dicuss these points.
Get an MRI of the brain.
Other blood tests with Electrolytes.
This will give a proper diagnosis and a plan for management.
Please see that blood sugars are regularly monitored and maintained within normal limits.
Regular Electrolyte levels and management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
