What Causes Dry And Scaly Patch On Upper Lip?

Hi, I have a dry scaly round patch on my upper right lip which initiated about 1-2 mos ago. It started as a tiny dry patch and felt weird when I rub my lips together. I have also noticed over 6mos some colored spots right above the round patch, that looks like underground blisters but they are not really blisters. It s like some part of my skin is dying. These spots have spread since I noticed them. I have tried to apply Vaseline but the dry patch seems to be getting bigger than it was. No s/s of pain or blisters. Am worried of herpes or mayb cancer Please help! Thank you

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM. Understanding your concern. Thanks for your query. As per your query you have dry and scaly patch on upper lip since 1-2 months which is pointing towards a condition known as chapped lips or it is due to fungal infection known as Tinea faciei/ fungal infection .There can be many reasons for chapped lips like frequent licking ,picking ,extreme dry weather and excessive sun exposure.I would suggest you to spot picking or licking of lips,use lip moisturizer with SPF 15 to prevent from sun exposure,take supplement containing vitamin B6 which will be extremely helpful in this condition,try to avoid dry environment and apply teritenoin ointment at night.Apply topical antifungal agents on it mainly steroids. Keep you body hydrated. If condition persists for more the 10 days consult dermatologist for proper examination to rule out other condition like any inflammatory disease .
