What Causes Dry And Scaly Skin Around A Wound?

Hi, I have a wound on my foot. I scratched it on a piece of rock while in the sea. It started as small scratches - 4-5 ,they were very small but after the scabs fell off, a big one formed combining all of the scabs into a 6mm one. I peel off the dry part but it keeps drying continiously. The wound is dry and when I peel it off, normal skin is underneath. But after a day, the dryness come backs and the process repeats. This has been here for a month. Is this anything bad?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Nothing to worry, scab will fall off and wound will be healed. Do not scratch as it will cause further secondary infection. You can apply ointments like Neosporin as it will improve wound healing. It doesn't seem like infected thus no antibiotics are needed.

Wishing you good health.
