Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Dry, Brown And Clumpy Menstrual Bleeding?
I have had my period a week early. The blood is very dry, brown and clumpy. It s not discharge. I have to change my pad two times a day so I do not think it is due to pregnancy. I however have never had blood like this in the beginning of my period. It usually lasts 7 days with thick red heavy blood. I did have protected sex 2 weeks ago. Any thought? Is this just an abnormal period or should I be concerned about pregnancy?
Since you are seeing dry, brown and clumpy blood it may be indicative of pregnancy though old blood that slowly exits from the vagina may get oxidized to get the dry and brown consistency. You are suggested to get a urine and blood test for pregnancy done to rule out pregnancy.
In case you are not pregnant get clinically examined by a gynecologist to detect any hormonal problems or polycystic ovary disease. Get treated at the earliest. If not pregnant you can take Uterine tonics to help normal, healthy uterine functions.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
