Hi,
I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.
Let me recapitalize your case:
- symptoms: dry cough in the day, productive at night
- drainage and laryngitis
- no fever
- meds taking: Claritin D;
Azelastine nasal spray
- diet: hot drinks (chai latte, hot chocolate, hot toddy)
From what you are describing you are having upper
respiratory tract infection with laryngitis. A good physical examination is advised to rule out pneumonia.
ClaritinD is a combination pill containing
loratadine and
pseudoephedrine and will ease
nasal congestion and sinus pressure.
Azelastine nasal spray will also reduce nasal congestion as it will work locally inside your nose.
As you are having productive cough at night, if I was your caring doctor would recommend to start an mucolytic medication like carbocysteine or N-
acetylcysteine. They will dissolve sputum and you'll find easier to clear up your respiratory pathways.
Increased fluids intake will keep hydrated and will help ease the symptoms.
Aerosol-therapy is also recommended to ease the symptoms. Can use saline water for that.
I still think pneumonia or
bronchitis to rule out first after a good physical examination. If after starting mucolytic your symptoms will be still there, I recommend to consult with your physician as antibiotics might be needed to add and you need prescription for that.
Bronchodilatators (e.g. Ventolin) should be started if symptoms will persist.
Hope this helps. Wish fast recovery.
