General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
The cough with thick mucoid sputum stimulates hieve as the sputum sticks to throat. You should get investigated for cause of this long standing cough. Throat and chest detailed examination, CBC, sputum microscopic examination and culture with sensitivity if indicated.
X-ray (chest) should be done as per need. Please consult a chest physician for this. Once the basic cause is know you would be advised specific treatment. Heives sometimes associate with hyper-acidity and this can be controlled by lifestyle changes and few medicines. The rectocele and cystocele is caused by strong straining / bearing down. It can be relieved by life style changes, exercises and sometimes by surgery.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
