What Causes Dry Rough Flaky Skin On Arms?

Hi Doctor, I am Shelly and i am 30 Years old, in winters i usually suffer from excessive dry skin, doctor had prescribed me venusia moisturizing lotion and alaspan tablet, which was good, but after 2 weeks cos again i took hot shower bath in a day twice, again dry rough flaky skin appeared in my arms neck waist. from past two days my neck area is burning and very itchy. when i went to the doctor she advised not to worry as it is atopic dermatitis and can be cured easily. she suggested me zempred16 for 10 days,then zempred 8 for next 10 days n zempred 4 for next 10 days (30days), she also suggested me sodox capsule for 30days and alaspan also. And also tenovate cream and hydrfil moisturizing cream to be taken after shower. i wanted to know how these medicine works in body and what are they for. and if these medicines are okay for atopic dermatits as i am really suffering from itching and inflamation.

I have gone through your question and understand your concern. Atopic dermatitis or eczema is caused by dryness of skin and hot showers tend to exaggerate symptoms. Use the prescribed medication along with moisturizer and avoid hot weathers, hot showers, dry air conditioned environments and harsh soaps. Simple measures can prevent the problem. After shower immediately apply Venusia on pat dried skin to seal in the moisture and if symptoms improve over few days continue the eczema preventing measure.
