What Causes Dry Skin And Hair Loss While Suffering From Low Thyroid Levels?
Thank you, I have had low thyroid since 1975 with having my first child. I also had my hormones all screwed up. I went to the doctor last Friday had blood test to check thyroid she said today every thing was fine. Well I still have dry skin ,hair coming out and nails break or split. I have to take depression meds. I have been having to go to the bathroom more than 5 times a day. I have no energy. Is it just in my head. I m 66 yrs old
Hello, Thanks for the query. You have said that you had " low thyroid". Looking at various complaints sighted it appears all those are related to hypothyroidism not in proper control. When you are on treatment for hypothyroidism with levothyroxineTSH should be maintained between 3 to 4 mU/L, for remaining free from all the symptoms. Since no specific value is mentioned, it is difficult to comment. So please look at your TSH value and if it is not in the range as mentioned above, you will have to look at increasing the dose of levothyroxine. Secondly as regards the frequent visits to bathroom, please check your blood glucose levels to check if there is diabetes. I hope I have answered all your doubts. Thanks.
