What Causes Dry Throat With Excess Mucus In The Throat?
Hi, For the past three and a half weeks I have had a dry cough and quite a lot of drainage in my throat. When I lay down at night I find myself continuously swallowing. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and hashimotos. I have tried taking allergy medicine but it has not helped. Sometimes I cough so hard I have trouble breathing and even temporarily lose my voice and find it hard to speak. Any advice?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of dry throat with excess mucus in the throat which is leading to loss of voice seems to be due to sore throat due to bacterial or viral infection and infection is spreading down to larynx.
Need not to worry. I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles 2-3 times a day. You should avoid spicy food. Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined and start treatment after proper diagnosis. Take soft foods to avoid irritation to the throat. Take throat lozenges and drink lukewarm water throughout the day as it can provide relief. Drink spoonful honey daily as well. You should take milk boiled with a pinch of turmeric taken at bedtime.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
