What Causes Dry Tongue And Lips Followed By Sores Throughout Mouth?
Since February, after a bout of flu,Bronchitis and Thrush I developed a very dry tongue and lips followed immediately by sores all over in my mouth and on top and bottom of tongue. There were thick white and yellow patches along with very sore red patches everywhere. Off and on I get thick grooves in my mouth, tongue and lips. I am now continually having the left side of my tongue, lips and inner mouth swollen. I have tested negative for Thrush. Steroid rinse helps some, but never gets rid of it. Magic Mouthwash and lidocaine gel numb it part way for about 5-10 minutes. I can now only tolerate ice cream to eat. I ve also been having swallowing problems though an endoscopy scope was fine. My gums hurt constantly though the dentist says they are fine. This is extremely painful,I am dealing with a lot of other health problems and symptoms that no one can explain. Please help!
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of dry tongue and lips followed by sores throughout mouth which is due to angular cheilitis and chapped lips due to which it will remove natural moisture and make it prone to fungal infection.
I would suggest you to apply lip balm throughout the day to retain moisture and drink plenty of water. You should use humidifier at home and apply vitamin E oil at night. Eat green leafy vegetables and fresh fruits. If condition persists for more then a week or get worse consult dermatologist for proper diagnosis so that doctor can rule out any infection.Doctor may prescribe oral/topical antibiotics or antifungal depending upon the condition.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
