What Causes Dryness And Itchiness In The Ear?

I have wet itchy ears. The right ear is worse. Sometimes my ears are dry and flaky...large pieces of skin. At times I could scratch it until it bleeds. :-( I have tried many rx and and home remedies but nothing really helps. I have spent hundreds of dollars on rx...pointing ointments, creams, liquids...and the meds just expire because I go back to the doctor and he prescribes something different. What do you suggest to do at this point?

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Itchiness and dryness of skin over the ears can occur due to allergy, insect bite etc. However, intense itchiness with scratching of skin could be due to some primary skin pathology. I suggest you to consult your dermatologist for clinical assessment and thus management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
