What Causes Dryness In Mouth Along With White Coating On Tongue?

My tongue and my mouth burn, I take meds that cause dry mouth but this stings. I have had sinus infections I can t get rid of and my tounge was coated so I was scraping my tongue, did I injure my tongue? Also I have had this happen before when I was going through menopause.

Hi.
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain you are suffering from BURNING MOUTH SYNDROME which seems to be due to DRY MOUTH and dry mouth seems to be caused due to taking of medications as you described..
The white coating over tongue is yeast infection known as ORAL THRUSH or ORAL CANDIDIASIS and is caused by a fungus known as CANDIDA ALBICANS which is an opportunistic infection and in your case dry mouth is the cause of it as well as thrush further causes dryness in mouth..

The first thing that you have to do is to start symptomatic treatment for dry mouth and antifungal treatment simultaneously along with it consult your physician and explain that the medicine that you are taking is causing so so much of discomfort so that he can either change the medicine or reduce the dose..

For DRY MOUTH:
-SALIVA SUBSTITUTES that contains methyl cellulose and can be instilled frequently in mouth to lubricate the mouth..
-SALIVA STIMULANTS like sugar free chewing gums can help in stimulating saliva flow..
-At time drug Pilocarpine can be advised by a physician as it has secretory action on glands and help in increasing saliva flow..

For THRUSH:
-Antifungal drugs like FLUCONAZOLE or ITRACONAZOLE has to be taken for two weeks.
-Antifungal lozenges and Nystatin mouthwash has to be taken..
-Take more of probiotics in diet like Yoghurt and garlic..

For Burning sensation:
-Suck ice pops.
-Do cold water rinses.
-Drink plenty of water
-Gargle with a numbing mouthwash..

Hope this information helps..
