What Causes Dryness In The Mouth While On Hydroxyzine For Anxiety?
I suffer from complications of dry mouth (very sore, itchy mouth, mostly inside lips and tongue). My mouth is no longer dry. I also suffer from relentless nausea. I was prescribes hydroxyzine as a sleep aid anf for anxiety. I see this has a side effect of dry mouth and am discontinuing it. What else can be done to ease my mouth symptoms?
As per your complain dry mouth or xerostomia causes thinning of the mucosa inside mouth and also causes inflammation along with increased probability of infection causing pain and soreness..
I would suggest you to consult your treating Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation done.. Reducing the dose of the medication or changing the drug will help in reducing the severity of symptoms..
As of now you can start gargling with a numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine to relieve the symptoms. Chew sugarfree chewing gums to improve saliva flow.. You can also instil artificial saliva drops.. You can also take a multivitamin tablet daily.. You can take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen.. Suck ice and do cool water rinses.. Avoid spicy food..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
