What Causes Dryness In The Throat After A Sinuses Surgery?

Hi sir, i had endoscopic sinuses surgery a month ago and my nose is fully open because of which i am experiencing cold air in my throat when i breathe from nose and it makes my throat dry everytime. So is it normal? Till when it will be healed? And sir i am also experiencing bad smell in my nose. Is this normal or i have to consult my surgeon.

Hello and Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Dryness in throat can be due to mouth breathing habit in case if you are accidentally breathing through mouth and also bad smell from nose can be due to infection inside the nose or the sinuses.

So once a clinical examination is a must and if there is any doubt a sinus x ray can be done to rule out the exact cause of the symptoms..

So my suggestion is to consult your Physician/ Surgeon and get checked..

For now you should breathe through nose and along with it you can also do steam inhalation by putting few drops of lavender or Eucalyptus oil.

Use a humidifier in your room to keep it humid.
Sip on water at regular intervals.
