Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Dryness In Throat With Coughing Upon Exercising?
hi I am a 57 year old man in good health.i do not smoke. in November of last year I had a upper respatory infection. it lasted about a week. but ever since then when I go for a run my throat is very dry while I am running. and sometimes I have to cough a little after running and exercising.
Dryness of throat, coughing after running and exercise are usually normal reversible phenomenon. After exercise there is narrowing of bronchial passage due to hyper-reactive response of lungs due to increased heart rate and hence coughing may be there.
Similarly, the air may cause the lining of throat dry, as you breathe heavily in the act of exercise. However, if the symptoms also persist after some time of stoppage of exercise, then you are required to see your doctor for some definite cause, if any.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Satnarain Bansal, General & Family Physician
