What Causes Dull Pain In Shoulder Blade Along With Numbness In Arm?

i have a dull aching pain in my left shoulder and back of shoulder blade,with radiating numbness down my arm ,into my hand , also it feels like i slept wrong,feels like a crick in my neck with limited range looking left,and i can hear a cracking type noise when i look to the left and back... its been like this for about 2 years ,dosent hurt with activity ,mostly hurts when arm is at rest...what could it be ..please help

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have dull pain in shoulder blade along with numbness in arm . Well the symptoms you mention in query can occur due to may reasons like trapezius muscle spasm , muscle spasms , tendinitis , shoulder joint swelling and inflamed rib cartilage . The symptoms can also occur due to cervical spondylosis. In you case the symptoms are probably occurring due to disc problem. I would suggest you to consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination . Doctor will examine physically by palpation and order X-ray to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may also order CT scan and MRI of shoulder .Doctor may fix if there is any fracture and ask you to restrict your movements for few days . Doctor may prescribe muscle relaxant along with anti inflammatory and multivitamin for quick recovery . For now do stretching exercises under expert , give your shoulder and elbow proper rest and apply warm compresses , use cervical pillow on expert's advice. Doctor may also refer you to neurologist for nerve dysfunction.
