What Causes Dull Pain In The Arch Of The Foot?

I am looking for some idea of what my issue is. To make it simple, on my left foot, towards the back of the arch, I sometimes get what I will call a dull ache ( think of having a bruise and keep hitting it ), it feels better when I massage it and goes away until the next time I walk too much or stand too long. Doesn t really happen when I put in new arch supports.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dear Sir/ Mam, thanks for choosing HCM for your query.

Here is the answer to it-

From your description, i think you are suffering from Heel pain (In medical terms we call it as Plantar fascitis or Achilles tendonitis). This usually occurs after standing or walking for long time. Obesity may also contribute to it. Faulty structure of foot (overly flat foot or highly arched foot) can also cause this problem.

Following is the advice i would have given if you were my patient-

1. Stretching exercises. Exercises that stretch out the calf muscles help ease pain and assist with recovery.

2. Avoid going barefoot. When you walk without shoes, you put undue strain and stress on your plantar fascia.

3. Ice. Putting an ice pack on your heel for 20 minutes several times a day helps reduce inflammation. Place a thin towel between the ice and your heel; do not apply ice directly to the skin.

4. Limit activities. Cut down on extended physical activities to give your heel a rest.

5. Shoe modifications. Silicone sole can be used inside your footwear. You can find it on various online stores.

6. Medications. Oral nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen, may be recommended to reduce pain and inflammation.

If these tips don't help you, please visit nearest orthopedic surgeon for further evaluation and treatment.

Hope this information helps you.

Good Bye for now!
