What Causes Dull Pain In The Hip Post Knee Replacement?

There is a dull pain from my hip , down to my foot. it feels like the pain is deep inside the bone. kinda like toothache pain. I ve recently had a knee replacement, but did really well with the surgery. I also have hypothyroidism, Lupus and diabetes. I live with lots of pain, which I can tolerate, but this is a pain quite different from any I have experienced before. Any thoughts on what could be causing this?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history about undergoing knee replacement followed by deep situated pain in the whole limb which is different from the pains you are already suffering due to hypothyroidism, lupus and diabetes.
The most probable causes can be as follows:
Knee replacement surgery is a complex surgery and the dissection, edema therein can spread above and below the operated knee giving you atypical pains as you have mentioned.
Hence I would advise you the following:
Consult your operating Surgeon for clinical examination and investigations like CT scan so that an appropriate cause may be found.
The further management totally depends upon the findings.
You are also free to take a second opinion of another Surgeon so that nothing is missed as it is imperative to have a proper diagnosis for proper management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
