What Causes Dull Shooting Pain In Cartoid Artery In Neck Post Marijuana Withdrawal?

I tend to get a dull shooting pain in the area if the carotid artery in the right side of my neck. I have been a marijuana smoker off and on for 15 yrs., but have recently quit. Can this be causing the pain, and I am at risk of having a stroke? Also my father and grandmother had strokes, which I m sure is not good .

Hi,

Marijuana withdrawal is not likely to cause the pain you have. It can cause head ache. Reduced appetite, sleep, mood changes are few more symptoms. With the family history of strokes, you should check with a vascular surgeon get yourself investigated for carotid artery block (MRI). Get also your blood cholesterol levels checked and get specific needful treatment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
