What Causes Ear Ache Post Ear Wax Removal?

Dr. flushed out ear wax out today to get a better view of ear. After doing so only said was a little red, no fever, no sore throat, but now he says it aches to lay on that side to go to sleep. She did prescribe antibiotic if the ear starts to hurt, saying that an ear infection could come after so much wax build up had been removed. What should we do, go back to doctor, take a Tylenol to get to sleep, etc?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. This pain is transient. Due to removal of wax which causes some manipulation in ear, you can take any analgesic to relieve it. Complete the course of antibiotics and it will get better soon. No need to worry.

I hope this will help you. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sangeeta Bhuva
