Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Ear Bleeding And Coughing Up Of Blood?
Hello, my 19 year old son has been experiencing bleeding from his ears and coughing up blood. He is lightheaded when standing and it s hard for him to breathe. He just left the hospital and they told him that it may be muscular or skeletal and to follow up with a doctor within two days. He has no insurance through his job and I am trying to find out what may be causing his symptoms.
Such symptoms commonly occur due to colds (upper respiratory infections) and sinusitis, when sneezing, coughing and nose blowing. Bleeding from the ears is more serious it may be indicative of inner ear hemorrhage or head injury. Bleeding can be related to blunt trauma, problems with blood clotting, certain medications also increase the tendency to bleed.
If your 19 yr old son has sustained an injury and experiencing bleeding in the ears, or nose, he seeks immediate medical attention. Bleeding that does not stop in 30 minutes. Bleeding that is very heavy, pouring down the back of the throat and out of the front of your nose needs urgent medical aid. You are advised to get your son clinically examined at ER. Get required imaging tests done to detect the pathology so that treatment can be started before the worsening of the symptoms.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
