What Causes Ear Infection And Bitter Taste In Mouth?
Hello Doctor,
I am having ear infection for some time and also have bitter taste in the mouth. Do you think ear infection could be a cause for the bitter taste in the mouth? Recently my doctor has given me antibiotics and steroids but that did not cure the ear infection or the taste problem. Any direction on how I should go about for finding the cause of this bitter taste in my mouth would be greatly appreciated.

As per your query you have bitter taste and infection in ear . There can be many reasons for bitter taste in mouth like infection , fever , liver disease and dental infection . In your case it seems to me that ear infection spread to other areas through eustachian tube ,which is a small tube connecting parynx to middle ear and cause bitter taste in mouth . I would suggest you to conbsult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may check ear with otoscope to confirm the diagnosis to rule out any nerve dysfunction responsible for bitter taste . Doctor may prescribe stronger antibiotics at least for 10 days along with anti inflammatory . Keep you ear dry .
