My wife, 58 years old, has Lupus, which flares at times. She is experiencing bruising easily as well as bleeding. She does take an 81 mg baby aspirin at night. What is causing the bruising and bleeding? Is it the Lupus or aspirin or something else? Thank you,

Hello
Bruising and bleeding into skin may caused by lupus flares. As lupus fares is associated with increase in immune destruction of small vessel walls leading to small bleeds.
Aspirin taken over long time can also cause bruising as it is a blood thinner.
I recommend you to visit your consulting physician.Certain blood tests are necessary so that cause can be known like platelet function studies, bleeding and prothrombin time.
Accordingly medication may be changed or their doses changed.
-Keep the bruised area elevated. Can apply compression bandage and apply ice pack locally for relief
-Improve diet including whole grain cereals, green leafy vegetables for vitC,Vit K.
Thanks.
