There are different causes of the swelling in the leg, from kidney problems (prostate might cause problems with the kidneys) to thyroid problems and the heart or liver issues and very common due to venous insufficiency.
The best way to know the cause is having a visit with you doctor and probably he may ask the following tests: urea, creatinine and electrolytes, ALT, AST, bilirubin and total albumin, TSH, FT4, CBC, heart ultrasound and ultrasound the legs.
I hope I have answered to your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
