What Causes Elevated AST And ALT Levels While On Desmopressin?
I'm 75 yrs old male with diabetes + diabetes insipidus (frequent urination). My doctor gave me 'Desmopressin 0.2mg' for every other day swallowing. It helped my frequent urination but now my blood test shows higher than normal AST (65) and ALT(66). Does Desmopressin give me this result? Young Fong - YYYY@YYYY
** Thanks for contacting HCM with your health concern
1. Till to date, there are no elevated liver enzymes reported by people who take desmopressin acetate yet. It is created by eHealthMe based on reports from FDA, and is updated regularly.
2. It is wise to check with a Hepatologist to know whether the elevated liver enzymes are due to drug or any other condition like viral hepatitis, toxin or drug induced hepatic injury [e.g. alcohol]
PS. elevated values are compared with other tests such as bilirubin value, Alkaline phosphatase to determine which type of liver disease is present
3. Since liver enzymes is not confirmation of a diagnosis of damage to the liver but along with other liver function test it should be used to verify whether a patient really suffers from damage to the liver or not
